Trey Sword

Hi, my name is Trey Sword. I’ve been giving guitar lessons at the muse for a good 7-8 months.  I was born and raised in Ottumwa, Iowa, I am currently a senior in high school.   I’ve grown up around all of my siblings playing piano, guitar, and other instruments. I grew up with a classic rock influence and enjoy most types of music. I started playing the electric guitar when I was about 11 years old and have been teaching myself new material since then. I play anything from Latin guitar and jazz to metal or punk rock and I’d love to teach anybody how to enjoy playing the guitar. I can teach beginners who may not know where to start or advanced players that want to expand on their playability. I can teach music theory and would like to share techniques to enhance what you already know or help you play your favorite songs.

Marina Flores

Hello! My name is Marina Flores and I have been teaching lessons at the Muse for about a year now. I have been singing ever since I can remember and have been teaching voice lessons for over two years. I recently started teaching beginner lessons in ukulele, piano, and flute! I also lead the choir at the Muse called The Muses. We are always looking for more voices to join our choir!

Now a little bit of background on me:

I have been in choirs since I was five years old and have taken private voice lessons throughout the years.  I was in Chamber Choir when I was in high school and had the great opportunity of singing in Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia.  Later, I attended Graceland University and Majored in Communication and minored in Music, with a focus in Vocal Performance.  I am currently the lead singer in a band based here in Oskaloosa called 9:53.  I have also recently joined the Central Reformed Church as one of their vocalists!

Spencer Thury

Hi, I'm Spencer! I have taught a variety of musical instruments over a span of 30 years. Though I have two years of college music theory, which I utilize in all of my lessons, my emphasis in higher education was on Transformational Leadership for which I earned a MATL from Bethel Seminary.

Beginning with the basics of guitar, bass, drum set, keyboards, blues harmonica, and saxophone, I expanded my teaching through assisting the North Iowa Christian school and a private Christian school in Fort Dodge Iowa where I taught all band and orchestra instruments. Most recently, I added 5 string banjo, mandolin, and accordion (keyed and button) to my repertoire.  I was the guitar instructor from 2006 to 2015 at William Penn University.

Online Instructor

Ciao everybody! My name is Giovanni, but you can call me Gio. I was about 10 when I fell in love with music, a guitar was available at home, my father knew how to play few songs. Later on my sister took few guitar lessons, but somehow that guitar ended in my hands, and the love story that has changed my life begun.

Gio has a music degree in contemporary guitar obtained from the Musician’s Institute of Hollywood and is currently getting his master’s in Jazz Guitar at the Padua Conservatory of Music (Italy)

Gio’s services cover a broad array: performing, teaching, composing, track productions and more. With more than two decades of experience he now has joined the Muse to teach Jazz, Pop-Rock and R&B guitar! We are excited to collaborate abroad and offer on-line lessons with Gio!
